Barbecue Special - Pan Fryers

My husband and I are looking at getting more chickens this spring and we get the magazine in the mail from Murray McMurry Hatchery. By the way, they have some pretty cool looking chickens in there. However there is this is the heading on the first page I opened, Nothing Tastes as Good as What You Grow Yourself".  I understand that people eat chickens. I know I am all for a good chicken dinner... But, there is something wrong with seeing the face of the chickens and you see them as cute little babies, then grown up, then dinner, lol. We want the chickens for eggs, not eating. However I would eat them if someone else did the dirty deed. If you have never seen a chicken with it's head cut off, its funny, but they stink when you have to take off the feathers.

What the Hay

Ok... Now as some of you may know. we have this Bull on our property. I look out the back window and see this poor cow sitting in his pen all alone. We don't own him, but there are days I would like to tell the bull(Ricky) to run free. I know in my heart what will happen to him and the owner says it is too expensive to feed him. But he has been without hay for a week, so we have been feeding him the weeds that are around our house. Weeds that a bull would normally graze on. But what the hay? If I had a truck I would get him some hay. I feel bad for poor Ricky the Bull.

Other then that life on the farm has been kinda crazy. I planted our lawn today... Alot of Ricky's droppings are all over my front yard, thanks to Scott. I really appreicated his help and I am sure Ricky liked that his pen was cleaned out. So hopefully the grass will grow and will be pretty. And then I want to go get some pretty flowers at Star Nursery. I need to pot some flowers. Oh, and here is another little surprise on the literal farmville. Last night Jessica went into the garage and found out that a stray cat had her kittens in there. They sound really young. So we get to go searching for kitties this weekend and hoefully trap them and find them a home so they don't become wild.

So to sum it up... Life on the farm is good, but what a mess at times when you have to deal with bull crap :) Sorry about the pun... Couldn't help myself

Working on Kids Club

If you have kids, we are going to have a good time on January 17th at Lin's Marketplace on Sunset and Dixie Downs in St. George, Utah.

What we are doing is having a Food Pyramid Scavenger Hunt: The kids will get a bag from the Kids Club table that will be located next to the Deli area. They will walk around the store and find people that will have a sign on them that says Congratulations, you have found the Dairy Food Group and they will get a free food item from that food group. This is a free activity and for all up to age 13. Although I do have a theory of kids of all ages. If your kids have allergies to peanuts, there will be a alternative. Since under the meat/proteins is a peanut butter sandwich.

But, if you have kids, join us on January 17th from 10 am-12 noon. We will see you there.

The Price Of Gas Drives Me Nuts

It drives me nuts when I go to the gas station and spend almost $100.00 to fill my van. Ughhhhh what the heck is going on? Someone must be getting richer, and it sure isn't me! Some say it is the governments fault, others the Saudi's and yet others the storms. All I know is that who ever is to blame, this is nuts and I can't wait for the prices to go lower. I am sure that everyone in some way is being affected, even P Diddy had to give up his private jet due to high gas. Ok. I don't think I have much sympathy for him. But obviously this shows that everyone is being effected by the high costs.

A customer at my work was making a comment one day about how he had to choose between the cost of food or the cost of gas. Both are out of control because of the high fuel costs. Everything trinkles down. Then I think about how owners of gas stations raise the price of gas to those that are in hardships to begin with like those that are trying to save thier lives by leaving ahead of the storm. And people had to choose to stay because they couldn't afford or get gas. Whats up with that. But, ok, I am done venting now. Atleast for today... Well maybe

Ok, good thing I didn't promise, but what also gets me is when we see the prices drop. Here in Utah, or atleast in our area it is $3.89 and everyone is commenting on how nice it is that it is going lower. Hmmm, I don't see the logic in that and I think it is terrible that we are conditioned to think $3.89 is good. Ok, now Im done...
